Paleo Quick Tip of the Day- Gorge Yourself on the Good

I was at a 60th birthday party recently- (I am 62 myself), and was surprised to find that a party is, at this  point in life, often a place to talk about... illness. 


Illnesses and the DRUGS to treat them!


I had this strange feeling that I was a seer: I knew what each person talking really needed, a bit of information that would rectify what was wrong with them; would save them, if you will, from disease, disability, and eventual premature death!  


The only problem is that... I really can’t say anything!


This is what a knowledge of the Ancestral way of living does to you!  You know what almost everyone needs to restore their health- get rid of their degenerative diseases, that are gradually destroying their health, wellness, and quality of life...


But you also know that they don’t want to hear it!


You’re not a Doctor!  You’re not qualified!  


But, most importantly: they don’t want to change their habits- their way of eating and living! NO NO NO!


It’s ironic, but Medical Doctors know nothing about nutrition- nothing!  In fact,  they as a rule tend to discount its importance entirely.


It’s really crazy that someone like PaleoJay, a 62 year old English major in college, knows more than an MD from Harvard or anywhere else-

but it’s TRUE!


Just as someone like Jimi Hendrix learned through actually doing it how to express himself musically through a guitar by actually doing it- so it is that if you endeavor to educate yourself about your own health and wellness by actually doing, and exploring ideas and experimenting rather than just following accepted rote dogma-  you can actually fix your own health!  And that of others, like your family and friends!




Back to before: virtually EVERYONE, by the age of 60, has LOTS of medical issues- metabolic syndrome, diabesity, skin conditions, actual diabetes itself, obesity and heart disease, chronic stress and high blood pressure; difficulty sleeping, rheumatoid arthritis, even cancer...


The incredible secret I want to tell you here is that:



Right now, I’m not at a party with friends- I’m here, talking to YOU, my BEST friend!  And I’m here to tell you that if you just EAT real, God made foods; foods like grass fed meat, pastured eggs, LOTS of veggies (especially whipped up in a Vitamix blender/smoothie!), pastured dairy like butter and cream- preferably raw!, get LOTS of sleep, rest and recreation- do SOME bodyweight and virtually resistance exercises most days- walk as much as you can daily, spend time with friends and family on a regular basis (not just watching tv together), and get out in the SUN for at least 15 minutes per day, preferably in a natural, forest or savanah-like environment...




Of course, if you also eliminate BREAD, and pasta, and anything containing gluten whatsoever, like... almost everything that is manmade like fast food, deli food, breakfast food, sandwich food, food food- in other words- MAN MADE PROCESSED FOODS-  




BUT, I think that most people getting into the Ancestral lifestyle concentrate on ELIMINATING foods; which is why I concentrate on ADDING IN nutrient dense, good, GOD MADE FOODS!  


If you do that: you won’t want, or have room for the man made CRAP.  


And so, concentrate on adding in as much as you possibly can of good, wholesome God made foods!


To paraphrase John Wesley:


Eat as much God made food as you can! 

As often as you can! With all the friends that you can! With all the people that you can! As long as ever you can!


Sorry to go all evangelical on you, but I feel that strongly about this.  


The more of good food you eat, the less of the bad!


Gorge yourself on the GOOD!


In SLEEP, in family and friend relations- at church, and with your neighbors!  GORGE yourself on a daily exercise regimen in the early morning doing Perfectly Paleo Exercise- POUR Veggie and Vitamin rich smoothie into your body morning and noon... FAST at night, regulating your body in tune with it’s ancestral rythmns of feast and famine- sing and dance with your friends- have campfires and wander through the forest, getting in tune with nature!!  Go to bed EARLY, and wake up EARLY- get in touch with your circadian rythmns!


And now?  Life is good!  Who even WANTS a donut?

We’ve all been brainwashed, literally for our whole lives- I mean nutritionally brainwashed!  


How were we brainwashed?


Eat low fat- eat LOTS of whole grains- pasta, whole grain BREADS and cereals!  



These are just the more prominent LIES we’ve been brainwashed with since birth- by the mass media, our own precious Government agencies like the FDA, the Dept. of Agriculture, the grain cartels like Kelloggs and Post and the myriads of BREAKFAST cereal manufacturers, the American Medical Association... and the list goes on and on.


Why would they do such a thing?  Mislead us, for over 50 years about proper nutrition??


At first, it was well-meaning- they all bought into the false science of Ancel Keyes, and even put his photo on the cover of Time magazine in 1961, praising him for uncovering the cause of heart disease!  Trouble was, he had “cherry picked” the data- only using the data from the countries that supported his theory that dietary fat had anything to do with heart disease... in other words, he falsified the data to support his wanted results!


Later the McGovern committee supported this false idea, and with the full might of the US Government behind it, the fight against fat was on in full force!


The results?  We are all much FATTER, SICKER, and UNHEALTHY!  Obesity and Diabetes have gone through the roof!!

So, what is a budding Paleo Quick Tip of the Dayer to do?  REGRAINWASH yourself!


Start listening to podcasts, on an ongoing basis!  


Really, this is not just self-serving since I provide Paleo Quick Tip of the Day and the PaleoJay’s Smoothie Cafe- but there are many other wonderful podcasts that can help you to reprogram yourself in alignment with MODERN SCIENCE so you can resist the enticements and criticisms of those around you that are still IGNORANT of how to eat, exercise, and move in accordance with our ancestry!  Like your friends, your Doctor, your relatives, the television and radio.... you get the picture- you need reinforcements!


You need to start listening- don’t get me wrong- books are great, and books like The Paleo Solution by Robb Wolf, Cholesterol Clarity by Jimmy Moore, and Perfectly Paleo Exercise by Jay Bowers are all wonderful to get and read!

But there is something very visceral about listening to someones actual voice as they tell you what they’ve discovered- it’s like talking to a friend, and you can really internalize just what they are trying to impart to you.  Also, you can listen easily while you are doing something else- no setting aside additional time!  


Driving is the main way people listen- we all drive somewhere, pretty much, every day- instead of mindless radio, just... play a podcast!  You can pause when you get there, and then resume- you don’t miss a word.  Or walking, or washing dishes, or cleaning your house...




You can just use your phone!  I have an iPhone, and it is drop dead easy on that- just use the podcast app... but, truth be told, I actually use an app called DOWNCAST.  It’s a simply wonderful app, and effortless to use...  STITCHER is another, and a FREE app, that you can use to gather your podcasts into playlists.  I like Stitcher, but it does “redo” the audio so it has a lower audio quality... but, more importantly, WHAT should you LISTEN TO????

The Livin La Vida Low Carb Show with Jimmy Moore- Maybe this podcast should be number 1, even ahead of my own- Jimmy is a legend in this area- he has literally a thousand podcasts or more.  He started Atkins Low Carb, but has evolved into a Paleo convert, and knows EVERYONE that is an expert in the field, and interviews them on a regular basis.  He’s funny, smart, a great interviewer; and he walks the walk, having once been 410 pounds, and now a fit and healthy NORMAL weight! Don’t miss Jimmy!


Relentless Roger and the Caveman Doctor- These two are great sources of paleo ideas: Listen to them play off of one another, and I guarantee you will learn lots!  I like it that they are NOT an interview show- most shows are!  Not mine, though... and not theirs!


Chris Kresser and Revolution Health Radio:  I can’t believe I haven’t put him up top- Chris is THE most knowledgable guy in Paleo, and if I was sick, HE is the one I’d want to be my doctor- really!  Just gone in for a weekly, shorter podcast- and only 30 minutes instead of LONG- Don’t miss Chris!


Paleo Magazine Radio:  This is another great one- lots of subjects, covered concisely in an entertaining and easily accessed manner!


Not Just Paleo:  This is a very eclectic podcast- you never know just WHAT the young host, Evan Brand will cover next!  He goes into all sorts of stuff, and however strange it gets... it’s always interesting!  Recommended!



There are others, but this is the cream of the crop!  Put them all in your playlist, Downcast, Stitcher, or Podcasts app, and listen on a regular basis- make this your “go-to” car driving entertainment.  CHANGE YOUR LIFE!  REGRAINWASH YOURSELF!!


I started my own transformation with books, and the internet.  But I’m here to tell you that NOTHING works better, faster, easier, or more efficiently than PODCASTS!


They will transform your life, and you health!

Paleo Quick Tip of the Day 25- What I wish I'd known as a teen

Paleo Quick Tip of the Day- What I WISH I had known about Diet and Exercise in my Teens!


Now, I am 62 years of age, and FINALLY think I have figured out a lot about proper diet, lifestyle, and exercise... but, how valuable would that have been when I was about 16??



Unfortunately, back then, there was virtually nothing taught about it, and all that WAS given in the way of guidance was quite worthless.  And so, in my day, nothing was taught, and that was WAY BETTER than what is taught as almost a religion TODAY!


The American Medical Association, the FDA, American Dept. of Agriculture:


ALL of these hugely funded and highly regarded organizations teach LIES.


I don’t know how to say it any stronger!  They are all in the pocket of processed food and pharmaceutical drug companies- they are just advertisers, apologists, or SHILLS of those companies- they do not know, nor do they care about what can help you to be healthy, fit, strong, and lean- 


They exist to sell processed, bad foods guaranteed to make you sick, fat, and unhealthy!


They exist to sell drugs to treat the SYMPTOMS (JUST the symptoms- not the root cause) of what ails you- sell you these drugs FOREVER!




At the expense of your health, and at the expense of your wealth.


I know, this seems very cynical, but it is very true I’m afraid...


And so, here is what I offer you- whatever your age, but especially if you are young, in your teens or twenties:


You can have a long, happy life- living in a lean, healthy, lithe and sculpted body, to a very great age- without medicines, without acne, without being fat or weak, just by following a few basic principles that are time-tested (since caveman days!), and not at all hard to grasp or follow, once you understand them.


Don’t eat junk foods!  This is #1 for a reason- if you do nothing else, this one thing will put you light years ahead of your friends- DON’T eat processed, fake, man made crap food!  This means Doritos, cheetos, twinkies, Mcdonalds, ALL fast foods, packaged cereals, skim milk, velveeta (fake) cheese, Taco Bell (fake meat)- you get the idea!  Just REAL FOOD!  Meat, eggs, whole milk, cream, butter, all the vegetables you can get, fruit!

Don’t drink soda pop of “energy drinks”- Coke, Mt. Dew, Dr. Pepper Red Bull and suchlike- these are all probably some of the worst things you can put in your body!

I actually don’t know which is worse- sugar or corn syrup sweetened ones, or chemical sweetened ones.  They really suck!  As bad as cigarettes!!


For exercise, stick to bodyweight exercise, like (I hope) you were taught in grade school.  The pushup is #1- do this one exercise, and you will be light years ahead of your friends who start lifting weights or who do nothing but video games.  

The weight lifters will eventually injure themselves, quite working out and become fat, and the video gamers will just gradually become fat (but without lifelong injuries)...  Neither is a good outcome!


Just do pushups, in front of the tv, and straight legged situps along with body weight squats (meaning squats with no resistance) for high reps.  Believe it or not, but you can build quite a body by doing this routine for about 30 minutes, a few times a week- 

First thing in the morning is by far the best way- get up before everyone else!!


And I mean both boys (or men) and girls (or women)!!  


Just do modified pushups or negative situps if you need them- build up as best you can.


There is tons of information on exercise at as you progress...  but just make sure to do 1,2,and 3 above on a regular basis.


One more thing:  Get at LEAST 8 hours of sleep per night!


Sleep is what truly makes you what you are- it is JUST as important as good, God made food!!  Do NOT miss out on SLEEP!


If you want to participate in high school sports, go ahead!  But, if you don’t, rest assured that you can become even MORE FIT by doing what I just told you- by yourself-

and this is fitness that will last, and grow, and actually become amazing to others- 





That is what I wish that I had known.  Do the above, and you will be clear-skinned, energetic, happy, healthy, lean and fit- guaranteed.  It really is that simple!
